The Three Musketeers

The Three Musketeers is one of cinema's most re-told stories with over 25 feature films made to date, not to mention telly movies and tv series. Which begs the question... do we really need another?

Well according to Resident Evil Director Paul W. S. Anderson, every generation deserves a re-telling of this classic legend and so guess what? He's done one. For Gen-Y.

This latest swashbuckling adventure (predictably) stars Orlando Bloom, but thankfully Anderson didn't want his Orlando playing another sword slashing hero, instead he wanted him to play the bad guy, the menacing Duke of Buckingham.

Orlando relished the idea of jumping ship, especially a flying one (see segment for explanation), almost as much as he seemed to reveal in the costume and makeup, which is as tongue-in-cheek as the humour. Of course Orlando is as happy in 17th Century France as he is 21st Century England, so while he does deliver the performance with ease, you can tell he's having a ball. As he told Showtime Movie News in a recent interview.

He also raved about the locations with the film shot in and around some of Germany's most historical and breathtaking cities. And they are incredibly impressive and well worth the price of a movie ticket alone

So while you might moan at the thought of another round of "all for one and one for all" (they only say it once), don't cast this version aside so quickly. It's actually entertaining, action packed, has big budget visual effects, those gorgeous locations, and essentially is a great story. Which is why it is one of cinema's most re-told ones.
