The Hunter

Daniel Nettheim's THE HUNTER had enough intrigue and suspense to bring Willem Dafoe down to the remote wilderness of Tasmania to shoot this thriller about a supposedly extinct animal.

Not, it's not the whirling dervish of the Warner Bros. cartoon, but a real, exotic creature thought to have died out in 1936, the Tasmania Tiger. But enough "sightings" convinced a shady bio-tech firm to send in a mercenary played by Dafoe, to track and bring back this almost mytholgical animal whose DNA is thought to possess healing properties.

Listen to Willem describe how the isolation and distance of this lone operative was too enticing to pass up, and how the landscape of the island state made a breathtakingly perfect setting for the mystery. Hear how adversaries on opposite sides of the ecological divide came together to work in harmony on the film, and how he was the first to look up Tasmanian Tiger on the Internet.

Watch director Daniel Nettheim explain the difference between the devil and the tiger, and how Tasmanians have embraced the striped creature as a symbol of their uniqueness.

Crazy Stupid Love

OK so you've seen Steve Carell on every media outlet imaginable promoting his new romantic comedy CRAZY STUPID LOVE, but as Movie News prides itself on digging a little deeper than the average entertainment show, tune into our chat to find out more than just a few crazy pick up lines.

CRAZY STUPID LOVE is about a 40 something divorcee (Carell) who gets picked up by Ryan Gosling in a bar, to teach him how to hit on girls. But this crash course in being single again is just one layer of 3 generations of crazy, stupid, love - with everything from crushes to crushing break ups.

The script is flawless, and one of those gems where you can't predict what's going to happen next. In fact, we are yet to meet anyone who has. Dan Fogelman wrote the script in just one week, especially for Carell as the leading man. Fogelman blunted his pencil working for Pixar Studio - where story rules - so we can expect a strong, solid and smart script.

Carell immediately signed up for the part after reading the script. But that wasn't enough. He wanted to produce it as well! Aad a wishlist of co-stars in mind, not all comedic mind you. He told Movie News he had a hunch Ryan Gosling could be funny, despite his reputation for his more intense roles. Maybe Carell's history as an improv teacher played a part in coaxing the comedy out of Gosling, but nonetheless he delivers his lines like he wears his designer suits. Very cool, calm and collected.

CRAZY STUPID LOVE is funny. Sure. With Carell in the leading role how could it not. But it's also very touching and poignant. And guys, don't be mislead by the crazy (and maybe stupid) title. This is much more than a chick flick. In fact, you'd be crazy (and kinda stupid) not to love it too.
